Friday, August 3rd, 2012

Each year the Rocky Mountain Outdoors Writers and Photographers Association has a conference and sponsors a competition for writers and photographers. At this year’s conference, held in Taos, NM, one of our members, Terry Guthrie, received seven awards.

He got first price in the Books and Scripts for TV/Movie/Video category for his book “Fall Images of North Georgia”.

“Mountain Highlights”, cover of Terry’s book, “Fall Images of North Georgia” and third place in the Published Images category.

The other six awards, all in photography, included a first prize for “After the Storm” in the Events category, for photographers covering incidents like fire, flood, storms, etc. This image shows the toppled steeple of a church in Mountain City, GA, after a tornado moved through the area in April of last year.

bluebird

This photo was taken the morning after the Atlanta snow storm. During the winter, especially when the weather is bad, we see bluebirds coming to our feeders. They like to perch on the trees and wait their turn.

How did you cope with this week rains and floods?

Not as spectacular like the previous Northern Georgia Falls pictures and thank God not as serious as the photos of cars and houses submerged in the water we are seeing on TV, but this photo shows our backyard yesterday during the rain. Half of the fountain lower tier is covered by the water and the whole back was a lake slowly advancing toward the house.

Today the sun is drying most everything. We’ll see what tomorrow brings us.

How about you?

Something I said?

Something I said?

Few things give me more pleasure than to look through the windows and to see my garden so alive.
