about us

The North Georgia Arts Guild was organized in 1994 as a part of a Grass Roots Art Grant project of the Clayton Women's Club. It was formed with the purpose of bringing together artists and people interested in the arts so that they might share their knowledge, expertise and friendship and to support art awareness in the community.

The Guild has grown from approximately 20 members to around 100 in 2010. Since its inception it has sponsored street fairs, art camps, numerous field trips including a trip to New York City, supplied manpower and expertise for local events, and sponsored a number of art and craft workshops. January 2001 was an exceptionally memorable occasion. Guild members were asked to exhibit artwork in Senator Carol Jackson's third annual "District Art Exhibit at the Capital". Forty plus artists participated, and a reception was given in their honor in Senator Jackson's office.

The Guild has raised money for local charities and supports the local library with memorial gifts of art books. The regular monthly meetings, which are open to the general public, feature demonstrations and educational art related programs. A popular event is the annual "Members' Show and Tell" where members bring examples of their art. A Christmas party, a members' breakfast and a potluck dinner are special meetings held each year.

It is located in Rabun County in the heart of the beautiful northeast Georgia Mountains. The area is a haven for artists and craftsperson's from around the country who bring their art experiences, ranging from beginner to regional, national and international, to the Guild. Media represented include watercolor, oil, acrylic, fiber, photography, mixed media, digital art, sculpture, pottery, woodwork, iron work, literature and other fine crafts.

Membership is open to anyone interested in art. Regular meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 10 AM at St. Helena's Catholic Church in Clayton, GA., and are open to the public.
