Dietrich Hoecht

Born in Fuessen, Germany. Education in metals as journeyman mechanic and mechanical engineer. Emigrated to the US in 1968. Dietrich took smithing classes at the John C. Campbell Folkschool and started Big Bang Forge in 2004.

Past president of the Gwinnett Council for the Arts; member of the Artist Blacksmith Association of America and the Athens Metal Arts Guild.

His work has been exhibited at the Madison Morgan Cultural Center and at the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis, TN, and is featured in three books: Ironwork: Dynamic Details, and Ironwork Today 2 and 3; Schiffer Publishing.

Dietrich’s silver jewelry, furniture, sculpture, copper and iron creations are shown in the Soque Artworks Gallery, Clarkesville, GA and at the Aurum Studios in Athens, GA.
