Petra Suelijn Hoscht

Petra was born in Eindhoven, Netherlands. She joined Agaat Blumenthal as an apprentice potter in Aalst-Waalre. During the time of this four-year learning she also took courses in sculpting and color design at the Academie voor Industriele Vormgeving (Academy for Industrial Design) in Eindhoven. Thereupon, for two years, her work experience was broadened at the Steinlin Werkstätte in St. Gallen, Switzerland.

After emigrating to the United States in 1968 she was accepted in the Cooperative of the Wallingford Potters Guild in Wallingford, PA. In 1975 Petra and her husband moved to Georgia, and she launched her own studio in 1979, the Blue Tulip Pottery. Since then, she has worked in high-fired stoneware – utilitarian, sculptural, wheel thrown and hand decorated. Occasionally she fires low temperature display wares in a wood barrel kiln.
