Connie Nunley, who signs her art CMeans using her maiden name, began drawing people when she was in elementary school. In the fifth grade, her teacher asked her draw a portrait of her grandson, for example. In college, she mostly used graphite, colored pencils and oils while completing a BA in studio art (a double major with English). She took a watercolor class in her twenties (Dianne Mize) and a watercolor portrait seminar (Roberta Clark) in her thirties. She has done several portrait commissions and has also begun to enjoy painting still lifes with reflections.
She completed a Ph.D. in English and taught that discipline, focusing primarily on British literature, for thirty-six years at Truett-McConnell College/University. She is finally getting back to her first love, painting people.
